Islands in the Stream

So we visited two islands off of Vancouver Island. Denman and Hornby. We stayed in a lovely Guest House for two nights on Denman Island.

Denman Island

Here's the place we stayed near Fillongley - isn't it lovely?

This is Janet our hostess with her dogs Asia and the fiesty Theo there on the right. She was so nice, and very hippy, and it felt like staying with an aunt. She made us dinner the second night and made lovely blueberry muffins for breakfast as shown below.

We had a lovely room as you can see, also had our own bathroom and living room which had a table football which was awesome. We had an amazing view from our bedroom - the photo below was taken at 7am, sunrise.

This island was sooo beautiful and the houses looked like something out of a Hans Christian Anderson tale. And were scarily affordable, get saving now!

So this was the beach that the Guesthouse was opposite. You can see the other island - Hornby in the distance. There was a lot of driftwood. We skimmed stones.

Here's some of the things we found on the beach - including a crab.

And here's the wood with all cedar trees.

This is the sunset from the dock on our first night there.

Hornby Island

Shame the weather wasn't nicer, but the island had an amazing beach. A proper beach as Mailie would say - sandy.

James was very happy with finding a stick and insisted walking with it around the beach.

Sadly jellyfish get washed up - and they are HUGE. We counted 28 on our walk.

The beach gets more rocky and would be an excellent walk as goes into the woods.

I swear to god this paw mark was big enough for a bear! Especially when we found lots of caves around the coast.

James finally gave up his stick as agreed we couldn't take it back to England.

They had wild blackberries growing all around the roads. Ignore my expression in the photo they were actually delicious and lovely and warm in the sun.

A few more random shots, sadly my battery didn't last. They call this island the hippy island and you can see why after walking around for half an hour. Lots of flower painted things, and buddha statues. Also lots of art houses, but most things were closed as the tourist season has finished.
